Welcome to our School Events page!
Throughout the year, our school community comes together for a variety of
events—some much-loved annual traditions, others special occasions that arise from time to time. These events are an important part of school life. They help us build a strong sense of community, strengthen the partnership between
home and school, and create shared experiences that support our pupils both socially and emotionally.
Our Parents’ Association has prepared a series of helpful notes for new families to outline what typically happens at key events and what is expected. We hope this guidance will help you feel informed, confident, and ready to get involved.
We organise these events to foster a culture of playfulness and fun, to celebrate learning, to fundraise for school initiatives, and to enrich the overall experience we offer our children.
To find out what is happening this year, please visit the Calendar of Events for the current school year. Remember not all events happen every year.
We look forward to welcoming you to our school community!
Halloween Disco
The Parents Association have organised this event for many years. The disco takes place in Monageer Community Hall around mid-term.
Children receive a treat bag as they arrive and bottomless drinks (juice or water) throughout the night. The DJ keeps the children dancing/entertained all night.
All pupils from the school, along with their siblings, cousins etc are invited to attend.
This is not a drop off event and parent/guardian supervision is required for all children.
Halloween Parade
The children are invited to dress up coming to school on this day. Reminder children should be dressed warmly. Limit props. Parents/Guardians are invited to school (time confirmed closer to the day - it’s usually towards the end of
infant day) to see the children parade on the walking track.
Grandparents Day
Grandparents Day is celebrated as part of Catholic Schools week.
Grandparents* in our children’s lives, are invited to a prayer service in the church first and then on to visit the children in school/their classrooms.
*Parents/Guardians, aunts/uncles and others (important to the children) are also welcome to attend this lovely event. Refreshments (tea/coffee) are
provided by the Parents association on this day also. There is often a bake sale or other event run by the pupils on this day also.
Children can leave school early with their “visitors” once the teacher is informed/they are signed out at the office.
Christmas Events in Monageer N.S. Carol Service/Christmas Show
In previous years the school alternated between a Carol Service in the church and a Christmas Show in the Community Hall. The children and their teachers have put on numerous shows over the years. These have included The Nativity, Matilda, Christmas Chronicles, Scrooge and more.
The Carol Service takes place in the church. All family members, friends and members of our community are invited to attend. This lovely service is followed by refreshments (organised by the Parents Association) in the Community Hall. Again, all are welcome to attend.
Santa Visit
The Parents Association has organised for Santa to visit our school for many years. He usually arrives sometime during the last week of term. The children sing some lovely songs for Santa and everyone thoroughly enjoys this much anticipated visit every year. Santa brings presents for each classroom and chocolate lollies for the children. This visit takes place during school time.
Gift Giving - Presents for the community
Each year also presents are purchased for senior and single members of the parish. These are given along with a handmade card from the school children as a reminder that everyone is important and remembered. A non-uniform/special day in December is used to create funds to purchase these gifts.
Pancake Tuesday
For several years now the Parents Association has supplied pancakes for the children to enjoy with each other in school. Children are invited to bring their own toppings to enjoy. A donation is usually made for a chosen charity.
Reading Challenge
For a couple of years now, the Parents Association have organised a sponsored reading challenge for the children. It runs for a month (a week before midterm, over midterm and for a week after). The sponsor card has lots of prompts to encourage the children to read as much as possible. These include things like read a book outside, swap a book with a friend, read aloud to someone and take a photo of yourself reading somewhere unusual.
Book Drive
The book drive usually takes place the week before the Reading challenge. Children are asked to donate books they have outgrown that are in good condition. These books are sorted and redistributed so that each child has a ‘new to them’ book to start the challenge.
Book Fair
Each year the school hosts a book fair. Parents are invited to come along with their child. Times given closer to the event. This is an opportunity for the children to purchase new books and part of the proceeds goes to offset the purchase of new books for the school library.
World book Day
To celebrate World Book Day, children may be encouraged to dress up as a book character. This does not happen every year. On this day, there may be additional reading opportunities for the children.
Easter Bonnet Parade
Children are invited to decorate a hat/bonnet and bring it to school. This does not happen every year.
Sports Day
Sports Day takes place in June every year on the GAA pitch opposite the school. Parent volunteers are encouraged to help out at the different stations.
Our school sports day is based on fun and being active rather than being a competitive event. Parents/Guardians are encouraged to attend and to bring a picnic. Children will be asked to wear a certain colour for their sports day team.
The Parents Association have organised an ice cream van for the last few years which has been greatly enjoyed.
Garden Party
Our school’s Garden Party takes place in June. Parents/Guardians, friends and relations and all community members are invited to attend this fun event.
The teachers and children spend the days coming up to the Garden Party
making crafts, treats, desserts, art and more. Make sure to bring some cash as the children will set up and run stalls on the day selling all their wares.
There is also a large bake sale on the day. Tea/coffee provided by the Parents Association.
This is a really fun event for our whole school community and a great way to meet other parents/families.
