Our School Garden.
We are very proud of our garden in Monageer National School. We are privileged to have wonderful and spacious school grounds. Our garden is frequently used as a resource to support the SESE curriculum and the Green School initiative. From the Infant classes right up through the school, children learn about plant life. Each class is allocated an allotment to plan for, plant, care for and harvest a variety of seasonal fruit and vegetables. In fine weather the garden is often used as an outdoor classroom.
The penultimate event in the school calendar is "The Garden Party". This is a celebration of the harvesting and use of the crops grown by the classes. This day is looked forward to, celebrated and enjoyed by children, teachers, parents and the whole community.
This year we applied and received funding for a Pilot Planting Grant from Wexford County Council. With our grant we purchased sustainable and pollinator friendly plants promoting biodiversity in our school grounds.
